Wright & Brown Distilling Company, Oakland’s first distillery since Prohibition, was launched in 2015 by two long time friends, a moonshining tugboat captain and and a homebrewer, after an extensive custom buildout of their craft distillery. Wright & Brown make non-chill filtered, artisanal whiskey from grain-to-glass and rum from blackstrap molasses with an American made hybrid Vendome Copper pot still. Using high-quality, hand selected malts and grains, Wright & Brown roller mill on-site, mash, and carry out long fermentation to encourage high ester production.


At Wright & Brown Distilling Co. they return to traditional methods to create exciting new California spirits that will stand the test of time. At the heart of our process is a classical American made artisan copper pot still which they use to handcraft each small batch. They seek out the most high-quality and flavorful non-GMO malted grains, molasses and wine.  They work with locally grown, sustainably farmed, organic grains whenever possible. They carry out every step of the spirits making process in house, from milling the grain to mashing, fermenting, distilling, barrel-aging and bottling.

Rye Whiskey
A high percentage of malted rye as well as a smaller percentage of locally grown, organic unmalted rye from Northern California family farms, give the smooth, spicy rye a unique, malty, terrior character.

Bourbon Whiskey
This double-distilled pot still bourbon has rich, layered flavor profile where the spice of the rye and the richness of the barley compliment the sweetness of the corn. As with the Rye Whiskey, malted rye is complemented with locally grown, unmalted organic rye.

Bottled-in-Bond Single Malt Whiskey
100% non-GMO malted barley grown in California, Washington and Ireland. We mill, mash, ferment, distill, barrel-age and bottle it on site. Barrel aged for 4 and a half years. Only the second ever bottled-in-bond American Single Malt and the only one currently available on the West Coast.

Barrel Aged Rum
100% grade-A Georgia blackstrap molasses, carefully selected for robust flavor and character. After long fermentation, the rum is double pot distilled to create a flavorful, aromatic and full-bodied rum. It is barrel aged in a mix of ex-bourbon barrels, toasted french oak barrels and new charred American oak barrels. No sweeteners, coloring or flavoring are added.
